Our Environmental Impact

Nature, wildlife and the oceans have always been a huge part of my life. I think during this trip I will be closer to nature than ever before, the ocean, the sky and wildlife.
To say I’m excited about the circumnavigation is an understatement but I am equally excited to try do something for the environment, I suppose to almost give something back if I can, even if that’s only raising awareness, for example micro plastics in our oceans, over fishing, or climate change. (I’m open to all suggestions)
Because of my route I will be in very remote, inhospitable parts of the world’s oceans and I think this is a unique opportunity to collect samples or data for research projects etc. I have been talking to two international environmental agencies and hope to have more news on this environmental section of my website soon ……

I am delighted to be teaming up with Irish Whale and Dolphin Group on my journey. When I leave I will be using the IWDG app to record any sightings I have of the wonderful cetaceans around the world. This app is pivotal to the IWDG and I would urge any one sailing or near waterways to use this app. Read below to find out more about IWDG.

IWDG was founded in 1990
to establish an All-Ireland  sighting and stranding scheme and to campaign for the declaration of Irish territorial waters as a whale and dolphin sanctuary. Since then, the group has grown in numbers to become what it is today, a diverse group of people from varying backgrounds with one thing in common, a passion for whales and dolphins and the marine environment. Our mission is to promote better understanding of cetaceans & their habitats through education & research. We carry this out by: the collection & distribution of information and collaboration with universities, government & research groups

So grateful to have the support of The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on this monumental journey.

Sea Shepherd is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. I am beyond proud to have spoken with the Sea Shepherd team to hear there value and incorporate them as my own on this journey.
